Ballast Nedam to Install Amrumbank West Monopiles

Wind Farm Update

Ballast Nedam has signed a contract for the installation of monopiles at the German Amrumbank West offshore wind farm with E.ON.

Ballast Nedam to Install Amrumbank West Monopiles

Ballast Nedam will erect monopiles and provide the logistics between the feeder port in Cuxhaven and the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm.

The E.ON Amrumbank West offshore wind farm is a 288 MW offshore wind farm in the North Sea, Germany. It is located 35 km north of Helgoland and 37 km west of Amrum.

For installing the monopiles with diameters of 6m, heights up to 70m and weights up to 800 ton, Ballast Nedam will use its Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) Svanen. Installation strategy is based on the feeder concept bringing monopiles floating to the HLV Svanen at the installation site. This method has been optimized over recent years resulting in highly efficient installation cycles. To date, HLV Svanen has successfully installed over 500 offshore wind turbine foundations.

HLV Svanen has arrived in Cuxhaven and the installation works for the vessel are planned to start mid August this year.

The project fits perfectly in the strategy of Ballast Nedam which is aimed to deliver cost efficient foundation solutions to the offshore wind industry. By optimizing logistic and installation solutions, Ballast Nedam is supporting the general development of offshore wind in Europe.
