Dong Energy’s 312MW offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 has encountered an obstacle, as Siemens cannot deliver the 77 wind turbines on time, Danish media reported.

The 4 MW turbine is an upgraded version of Siemens’ bestseller 3.6 MW, which was originally slated to be used at Borkum Riffgrund 1. In the spring, Dong announced that it would use the 4MW turbines to boost the capacity. Now, that became the source of problems.

Siemens confirmed to the media that there were some difficulties during the serial production of the 4MW turbines, so the installation will be delayed by a few weeks.

The delay also means that A2SEA’s installation vessel “SEA INSTALLER” is inactive and waiting to start with the installation. However, Dong Energy believes that the overall schedule to finish the project in the first half of 2015 will be met.
