Autonomous Surface Vehicles Could Help Reduce Offshore Wind Costs

ASV and Planet Ocean are investigating how Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs) can be used to reduce the cost of tasks related to the construction, operation and maintenance (O&M) of offshore wind farms.

The project, funded by GROW:OffshoreWind and supported by the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), will seek to both identify and demonstrate the applications of ASVs for use in offshore wind farms. This particular project aims to provide an autonomous system solution that meets the needs and provides value to the offshore renewables industry.

For this purpose, ASV and Planet Ocean will hold a stakeholder engagement session next month to facilitate an open discussion and the sharing of ideas to best capture the needs of the offshore wind industry.

ASV will be presenting two possible vehicles which could be used for these applications, the C-Enduro and C-Worker.

The GROW:OffshoreWind initiative is delivered by the Manufacturing Advisory Service and supported by programme partner RenewableUK. Through partnership with the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, its primary focus is to provide funding for suppliers to the offshore wind market. GROW:OffshoreWind works in close collaboration with Industry Leaders and the Government.
