AMBAU Completes Two Towers for Siemens’ Wind Turbines

Technology

In the last three months, AMBAU GmbH has produced two gigantic towers for Siemens Wind Power GmbH at its plant in Cuxhaven.

These purpose-built types consist of five segments – with a height of 120 metres and a diameter of 6.5 metres – and are to be installed in the Anzetel research park at Wehlens, where innovative offshore turbines are tested on an onshore site.

All of the tower segments were loaded on a ship in Cuxhaven and transported to WeserJadePort. The first segment, weighing approximately 200 tonnes, was then transported to the research park by a truck. Further 22 journeys are set to follow with the remaining components of the wind turbines.

Erecting the towers requires the use of one of the five largest cranes in Europe. Without this the project would be impossible to accomplish. The turbine employed is the innovative Siemens 6.0-megawatt wind power unit with direct drive, for which Siemens Wind Power already has firm orders for around 200 units with investment decisions.
