Sir Bill Callaghan, Chair of the UK Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has confirmed the appointment of John Tuckett as the organisation’s new Chief Executive.

The appointment was made following a fair and open recruitment exercise which attracted a strong field of high quality applicants.

Prior to joining the MMO, Mr. Tuckett served 17 years in the Royal Navy and also gained a wealth of experience as a Senior Civil Servant in departments and organisations including the Cabinet Office, the Home Office and the National Health Service. He most recently worked as an advisor to the Archbishop of York, using his experience of leading organisations through complex projects to change the Church of England’s structure. His tenure will start in early 2015.

Andrew Beattie has been Acting Chief Executive since 1 September 2014.

Sir Bill Callaghan, in confirming the appointment, said: “It is a pleasure to announce John Tuckett as the Chief Executive Officer for the MMO.

“The Board members and I are delighted to welcome him to the role. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Beattie, who has guided the organisation with true skill and determination in the last few months as Acting Chief Executive.”

The MMO is an executive non-departmental public body established in April 2010 and given powers under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. Its mission is to enable the sustainable development of UK seas.
