Gallery: Inch Cape's Met Mast Two Months After

On October 11, an offshore meteorological mast was installed at the Inch Cape offshore wind farm site, which will gather accurate wind resource, wind direction and wind velocity data.

Our reader Marc Pearce has sent some recently taken photographs of the Inch Cape met mast to Offshore WIND.

The complete structure of the 169.5 m high met mast was towed from Invergordon to the Inch Cape site in October and then installed by filling the base with water, under controlled conditions, until the mast was positioned on the seabed and anchored.

The mast has a gravity base foundation mainly made out of concrete. This innovative foundation type reduces the noise generated by the installation of the steel structures traditionally used and the associated negative impact on the marine fauna, especially on large mammals.
