LIPA to Vote on Deepwater’s Offshore Wind Project

Authorities

The trustees of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) are scheduled to decide today on purchasing electricity from several clean energy projects proposed to be built in Long Island.

The projects on which the aforementioned decision will be taken include several solar facilities and Deepwater Wind’s wind farm off the coast of Montauk.

In 2013, LIPA issued a request for proposals for 280 MW of electricity generated from renewable sources. Since Deepwater Wind’s wind farm has a minimum capacity of 210, a few solar projects would be out of the picture if the offshore wind farm is selected.

Deepwater would start with the construction in 2017, with the project in-service in 2018.
