Wavepower Could Take On Industry Professionals from Pelamis & Aquamarine

Business & Finance

Wavepower, a privately funded company, is currently looking to invest and help develop the wave energy industry by funding technology developers and future wave energy projects. To support this, the company is now recruiting industry professionals to offer technical and commercial support along with financial investment.

According to recent media reports, Wavepower could employ already experienced workforce from Pelamis Wave Power and Aquamarine Power, wave energy developers that recently faced rough business conditions.

When asked about the aforementioned possibility, David Rubie-Todd, co-founder of Wavepower, told our sister site Tidal Energy Today: “We are recruiting but not specifically just from the two companies you mention.”

“We are looking to invest our personal money into the industry with the aim of getting a device to commercialisation,” Mr. Rubie-Todd said, adding that Wavepower is setting up a technical team to help develop the technologies of the companies it invests.

Joao Cruz was Wavepower’s first addition to the technical team. Cruz joined the company as Chief Technical Officer in September 2014, to develop a technical team while supporting senior management in ongoing due diligence activities.

He spent the last 7 years at DNV GL, where he started and led the wave energy consultancy business from inception, being involved and managing more than 200 projects. Prior to DNV GL, Cruz was a project engineer at Pelamis Wave Power Ltd.
