German wind farm developer and operator wpd has signed a contract with Senvion for Nordergründe offshore wind farm, under which Senvion will provide 18 of its 6 megawatt turbines.

The companies signed the contract for delivery, installation and commissioning of the 18 Senvion 6.2M126 on 20 February in Bremen.

With the Senvion 6.2M126, wind turbines of the six megawatt class are to be installed the first time in a project developed by wpd. The 111 MW project is located in water depths up to 10 metres within the 12 nautical miles zone of the German North Sea, about 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge.

After the planned completion in autumn 2016, the Nordergründe offshore wind farm will be able to supply more than 70,000 households with power in a year.
