J. Murphy to Build Race Bank Onshore Substation for Dong

Grid Connection

Dong Energy has awarded a £21.8 million contract to J. Murphy & Sons Limited for construction of an onshore substation for the Race Bank offshore wind farm development project.

Race Bank, when operational, will have a capacity of up to 580 megawatts, enough to power over 400,000 UK homes. The wind farm will be located almost 17 miles off Blakeney Point on the North Norfolk Coast, and a similar distance from the Lincolnshire coast at Chapel St. Leonards.

The onshore substation being constructed by Murphy will be located adjacent to the National Grid Walpole Substation.

Thomas Karst, Programme Director for Race Bank at DONG Energy, said:

“Dong Energy is absolutely committed to investing in the UK, so we are delighted to offer this very significant contract to Murphy.

“Race Bank is an exciting project and this agreement with Murphy for construction of an onshore substation is a vital piece of work as development moves forward.”

The onshore substation construction work at Race Bank is expected to be completed in 2016.
