Danes Eye Floating Wind Projects Off Hawaii

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has received unsolicited lease requests for proposed floating wind projects offshore Oahu, Hawaii from Alpha Wind Energy.

For this purpose, the Danish company formed a subsidiary, AW Hawaii Wind (AWH), to carry out the development the Oahu Northwest Project and the Oahu South Project each with a capacity of 408MW.

Each project proposes 51 floating 8 MW wind turbines installed on Principle Power’s WindFloat structure.

BOEM and Hawaii Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force to determine whether there is competitive interest in the areas requested for lease by AWH. Depending on the results of a Request for Interest, BOEM will issue competitive or noncompetitive leasing process for the areas offshore Oahu.
