MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been granted type certification for the V164-8.0 MW from leading classification group DNV GL.

Chief Technology Officer Torben Hvid Larsen said the type certification of the V164-8.0 MW validates the thorough test and verification programme, demonstrating the quality of the turbine.

“The fact that certification of the V164-8.0 MW from DNV GL has been received according to schedule underlines compliance with the industry leading standards for design, quality, manufacturing, testing and installation, a very high priority for our customers.”

“The awarding of the type certification for the V164-8.0 MW validates a record test and verification process which included testing of the blade and blade bearing on the Isle of Wight, UK, the drive train (gearbox, generator, main bearing) in Aarhus and the prototype in Oesterild, Denmark,” said Torben Hvid Larsen.

During the second quarter of 2015 MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will commence serial manufacturing of the 32 V164-8.0 MW turbines for the 258 MW Burbo Bank Extension project to be installed of the coast of Liverpool Bay in the UK in 2016.

Hiring of the up to 200 positons at the blade manufacturing facility on the Isle of Wight in the UK has commenced, and the nacelle assembly facility at Lindø, Denmark has recently been awarded certification for ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management)- critical standards for operating as a business.
