Blake Boren, a PhD student from Oregon State University’s Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center (NNMREC), advised by Dr. Belinda Batten (NNMREC Director), has begun testing his‪ wave energy converter prototype at the O. H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory (HWRL) in coordination with Pedro Lomónaco (HWRL Director).

According to NNMREC, the device is a vertical axis pendulum based wave energy converter, called Vincent.

As Vincent’s orange hull pitches and rolls due to ocean waves, its internal pendulum swings and turns the generator.
