MHI Vestas Preferred Turbine Supplier for Navitus Bay

Business & Finance

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been appointed preferred supplier for the delivery of V164-8.0 MW turbines for the Navitus Bay project in the UK.

As soon as the project translates into a firm and unconditional order, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will disclose further details about this, the company said.

CEO Jens Tommerup said: “If the project translates into a firm and unconditional order, the 80m blades are planned to be produced locally at our manufacturing facility on the Isle of Wight, providing jobs in the region close to the project.”

The proposed Navitus Bay project is located off the Dorset and Hampshire coast and to the west of the Isle of Wight. The project could be up to 970 MW using a maximum of 121 turbines, with a mitigation option of 630 MW using a maximum of 78 turbines, subject to development consent.

Over 200 full time jobs have already been created at MHI Vestas Offshore Wind’s blade production facility on the Isle of Wight, where manufacturing of 80m composite blades for the V164-8.0 MW offshore wind turbine is ramping up to serial production.
