The Portuguese Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy, Mr Jorge Moreira da Silva, and the Secretary of State of Energy, Mr Artur Trinidade, visited both the WaveRoller in Peniche, and the installation site in Almagreira.

The guests got to see the landstation and the grid-connection point where wave energy enters the national grid since almost 3 years by now. Later on the visitors had a walk-around on board the WaveRoller at ENP docks in Peniche. The vessel hosting the 3×100 kW Pilot units is now modified to carry the 350 kW commercial unit.

“I am impressed by the scale of the installation and the stage of development”, said Mr da Silva on the deck of the WaveRoller.

Minister da Silva is involved in the continued development of wave energy in Peniche. AW-Energy and Eneólica will continue to cooperate within the SWELL-project, as the construction of a commercial 5,6 MW plant will start in the near future.

The visit was co-hosted by the Mayor of Peniche Mr Antonio Correia and presentations about wave energy were given at the town hall in Peniche.
