Dong to Showcase Walney Extension Onshore Plans

Grid Connection

The Danish energy company is set to unveil plans for the development of wind energy project offshore Cumbria.

Namely, Dong Energy will host a community exhibition where they will present plans for onshore substation which will connect Walney Extension offshore wind farm to the grid, writes In-Cumbria.

“This exhibition will be a great opportunity for members of the local community to gain information about the project, and to discuss key areas of interest with the project team,” said Rachel Cary, lead stakeholder relations adviser at DONG Energy.

The event will be held on 25 June between 1:30 pm and 6 pm at Heysham library near Morecambe.

The proposed 660 MW project will be able to produce enough electricity to power around 460,000 homes.

Based on the formal permits and timetable for the Walney Extension offshore wind farm, offshore construction of the wind farm could potentially start in 2017. However, DONG Energy has not taken a final investment decision to build the offshore wind farm.
