Westermeerwind: First Blades Installed

Wind Farm Update

Westermeerwind has reached another milestone with the installation of the first set of wind turbine blades.

The wind turbine blades arrived on Tuesday evening from Oude Zeug where they were preassembled via vessel LD27.

The installation was completed the following day via ‘De Schelde’ pontoon fitted with the 11350 Liebherr crane, owned by Van Oord/Mammoet.

“We are pleased that the first turbine is installed and look forward to continue installation of the remaining 47 turbines, completing the project in the first quarter of 2016,” said Project director Peter de Weijs for Offshore WIND.

The turbine installation kicked off last month following a monopile installation which was completed in May.

The first electricity from this 144MW wind farm is planned in autumn while the entire wind farm is expected to come online in February 2016.
