Two-Bladed Turbine to Be Tested in Eemshaven

R&D

An offshore wind turbine with a capacity of 6MW will be installed and tested in Eemshaven.

The 2B6 turbine uses two instead of three blades, which are mounted on the rear side of the turbine (downwind). The turbine is expected to power to 5,000 households within a period of 15 years.

The aim of the project is to demonstrate that the 2B6 turbine, developed by 2-B Energy, is able to reduce production costs for offshore wind energy by using fewer components and the applying innovative installation techniques. It is envisaged that in future use at sea, the new wind turbine will lead to using fewer vessels and lifting movements, thus reducing costs as well as the environmental impact.

Pondera Consult was in charge of acquiring the license for this project.
