BioWAVE Ready for Deployment

Technology

BioPower Systems has completed the final preparation of the bioWAVE wave energy device.

The unit is ready for installation offshore Victoria, Australia.

It will be loaded onto the transport vessel, and moved to the deployment site near Port Fairy, the company wrote in a statement.

The deployment is scheduled to occur in early December.

The data collected from the project, combined with the experience gained, is expected to help drive down the cost of wave energy, and contribute to further development of the bioWAVE towards commercial production.

Earlier this year, BioPower Systems completed the construction and onshore testing of a 250kW bioWAVE pilot demonstration unit.

The project is supported by an CAD 11 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), a CAD 5 million grant from the Victorian Government and CAD 5 million equity from BPS.
