Trianel and Gesy Team Up to Sell Borkum Electricity

Business & Finance

German municipal utility Trianel has partnered up with compatriot Gesy Green Energy Systems to jointly market and sell the electricity produced at the 200MW Trianel Wind Farm Borkum situated in the North Sea.

With the latest agreement, the combined portfolio of the two companies now stands at 3.5GW.

The Trianel Wind Farm Borkum is located approximately 45 kilometers off the coast of Borkum and its 40 Areva M5000-116 wind turbines will have approximately 4,000 full usage hours per year, and an estimated annual output of 800 GWh.

The Borkum wind farm was put into operation in July 2015, following several delays due to problems with the grid connection managed by TenneT.

Trianel plans to double the Borkum wind farm’s capacity, with the final investment decision on the second stage of development, the Borkum West 2, expected to be made in 2016.
