Peel Ports Buys Great Yarmouth

UK port owner and operator Peel Ports Group has completed the acquisition of Great Yarmouth Port Company Limited (GYPC), a river and sea port situated on the east coast of England with proximity to the development sites of some of the UK’s largest offshore wind projects.

The port has been actively involved in the offshore wind industry for over a decade, initially with the Scroby Sands development and more recently with the Sheringham Shoal and Lincs offshore wind farms.

The river port is home to E.ON’s Scroby Sands O&M facility and Dudgeon Offshore Wind Limited have recently confirmed their O&M base will also be housed in the river, also supporting the construction phase of the development.

GYPC also serves as a hub for the offshore energy industry in the Southern North Sea.

“GYPC will complement Peel Ports core ports business by providing both geographical and commercial diversification. It is a very welcome addition to our business portfolio,” Mark Whitworth, Chief Executive of Peel Ports said.

“Bringing together customers and commodities served by both businesses will present a sound base for exploring future growth opportunities. This includes decommissioning, where GYPC’s market position has the potential to further enhance Peel Ports existing strategic assets. The acquisition is fully aligned with our growth aspirations and strengthens Peel Ports as a leading UK Ports Group.”

Peel Ports bought GYPC from International Port Holdings for an undisclosed sum.
