Norther NV, a joint venture between Eneco and Elicio NV, informed this morning that it had appointed MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as its preferred supplier for the V164-8 MW wind turbines and is now negotiating on an exclusive basis with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. A final agreement is expected in the first half of 2016.

MHI Vestas’ CEO Jens Tommerup said: “MHI Vestas has a strong partnership with Eneco, who we have worked with to deliver the 129 MW Eneco Luchterduinen and 120 MW Princess Amalia projects in the Netherlands, while we look forward to building our relationship with Elicio N.V. going forwards.

“Being selected as the preferred supplier for the Norther project underlines the customers’ confidence in the V164-8.0 MW and of MHI Vestas, and represents a big step forwards in our partnership,” Tommerup added.

The project is on schedule to reach financial close after summer of 2016 and to be operational from early 2019 onwards.

Norther offshore wind project, with an awarded grid capacity of 370MW, is located in the Belgian North Sea, approximately 22km off the coast of Zeebrugge and is able to produce energy clean energy to cover the consumption of 370,000 Belgian households.
