Wind continued to provide the majority of power from renewable sources in the UK in the first quarter of 2016, with 46% of the electricity generated from renewables coming from the country’s wind farms, according to the data gathered by EnAppSys.

The levels of generation from wind sources amounted to 8.66TWh in the quarter, an 11% decrease from the previous year due to lower wind speeds.

22.4% of the country’s total electricity generated in the quarter came from renewable sources. The growth rate of renewable generation slowed due to lower levels of wind generation, but overall the sector continues to grow, EnAppSys said.

The first quarter of 2016 saw levels of power demand in the UK climb by 18% from the previous quarter as while Q4 2015 had been unusually mild, temperatures were colder towards the beginning of 2016.
