TenneT’s CEO Mel Kroon will explain the operator’s vision of a ‘North Sea Infrastructure’ system at a media event to be held in the Nieuwspoort International Press Centre from 10 AM to noon, local time.

Kroon will discuss the possibility of offshore wind farms being connected to an artificial island in the North Sea, instead of being linked directly to national onshore grids by cables.

The presentation will also look into the ways in which the energy generated by offshore wind farms can be delivered to homes and businesses, as well as the possible role played by  cross-border subsea ‘electricity highways’ with large transmission capacities.

TenneT believes that its vision is ambitious, but achievable by 2050.
