DONG Energy has started the first phase of the public consultation process on the 2.4GW Hornsea Project Three wind farm proposed to be built off the North Norfolk coast, UK.
The first phase of the consultation includes the first round of community consultation events, scheduled to occur in late autumn 2016, as shown in the table below.
At these events, members of the public and other interested parties will be able to view information on the proposed offshore wind farm and comment on these plans.
During and after the events, attendees will have the opportunity to complete a feedback form and comment on the proposed plans.
The consultation period will last a minimum of 28 days and all feedback forms for phase one consultation must be submitted by the end of November 2016. A period of time will then be given to enable us to review and consider your responses, and a short interim Consultation Summary Report will be produced.
The second round of consultation events will take place during the second half of 2017. At this stage, DONG will specifically consult on the contents of the Preliminary Environmental Information Report and update the interested parties on the project.
The dates and timings of these events and the deadline for feedback will be publicised nearer the time on our website and in local media.
In August 2015, DONG Energy acquired the rights to develop the Hornsea Zone from SMart Wind Ltd, who were originally awarded the zone in The Crown Estate Round 3 bid process. To date, Hornsea Project One and Hornsea Project Two have both received planning consent, and Hornsea Project One is currently under construction after reaching Final Investment Decision in February 2016.
DONG is now exploring the potential to develop a third project in the zone, Hornsea Project Three, which is currently in the early pre-application stage for a Development Consent Order (DCO).
Hornsea Project Three will be located over 120km offshore to the east of Projects One and Two, and is exploring an area of up to 696km2.
Electricity generated by the offshore wind farm will be brought onshore via subsea cables buried onshore before connecting into an onshore substation and the national grid.
DONG is currently assessing potential cable route options from various locations in the proposed landfall area, in the vicinity of the North Norfolk coastline and connecting into Norwich Main National Grid substation.
This will be presented in the Scoping Report and is something DONG will be seeking public opinion on as part of the consultation and planning process.
