OEEC: We’ll Always Have Paris!

Authorities

Almost a year ago, in December 2015, Paris hosted a historic event when world leaders gathered at COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, and commited to tackling the climate change.

An agreement, some parts of it legally binding, was signed by 195 nations, who have pledged to try and keep the global warming going over 2 degrees celsius above pre-industrial levels.

So what happens next?

Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference (OEEC), to be held in Amsterdam this week, will host a livestreamed talk-show discussing energy policy and strategy after the Paris climate deal.

The 30-minute talk show themed ”We’ll always have Paris“ will be held at the Community Square, a new spot on the exhibition floor of the Amsterdam RAI, with speakers from Eneco, International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), and Follow This.

The talk show will be livestreamed on Offshore WIND news website at 15:00 CET Tuesday, 25 October.

During the talk show, the participants will be talking about the current status of the COP21 deal, what governments are doing, and the role of the industry.

One of the guests is Mark van Baal, founder of Follow This, a movement of ”green shareholders“ in Shell. Ahead of the talk-show, Van Baal, who is supporting Shell to speed up the energy transition, said: “Every dollar invested in searching for more oil will be wasted in stranded assets.”

While Van Baal is advocating the transition away from fossil fuels, Olaf Martins, Global Engagement Manager for IOGP will be making the case for oil & gas.

Last but not least, Ron Wit, Director Public Affairs at Eneco, a one of the largest producers and suppliers of natural gas, electricity and heat in the Netherlands, will be joining Van Baal, and Martins on the show.
