Grid Connection

The first of three substation topsides being built for DONG Energy’s 1.2GW Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm has arrived at Bladt Industries’ site in Aalborg, Denmark.

The substation Z12 is made in a collaboration between Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime, the company in charge of the electrical works on the substations .

Each substation will weigh 2,800 tons and the first unit will be delivered during the first half of 2018, Bladt said.

DONG ordered the three substation topsides for the wind farm in May 2016.

The Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm will comprise 174 wind turbines and four substations.

The offshore wind farm will be situated in the North Sea, 120 kilometres off the coast of Yorkshire in the UK. The wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in 2020.

DONG has also contracted Bladt to supply 96 transition pieces for the wind farm.
