Aconex Connects Block Island Offshore Wind Farm Teams

Operations & Maintenance

Deepwater Wind used a construction management platform provided by Aconex Limited to connect remote teams and manage project information during the design and construction of the 30MW Block Island wind farm, the first offshore wind farm in the U.S.

Close collaboration among the various stakeholders, contractors and suppliers was critical to ensure that all the wind farm components – foundations, cable systems, turbines, and blades – came together as planned, Aconex said.

“Design and construction needed to be carefully and closely coordinated,” said Deepwater Wind President Chris van Beek.

“Document control was essential in making sure we delivered the project within budget and on time.”

After evaluating available project management systems on the market, the company chose Aconex for its ease of project set-up and use, extensive customer support, and successful track record with similar developments, the company said.

“Some of the design files that we had to share with contractors were very large,” said van Beek.

“Uploading, transmitting and updating these files on Aconex was very straightforward and efficient. The platform was a great solution for executing design reviews and other complex processes within relatively short time frames.”
