Vattenfall Seeks Vesterhav Nord & Syd Onshore Grid Contractors

Vattenfall has invited companies to pre-qualify for the tender call for the supply and installation of the Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd onshore grid. Following the selection phase, the developer is expected to invite tenders in December 2017.

Along with the supply of 66kV onshore cables and a fiber optic cable the scope of work includes, i.a., installation, burial, termination and testing of the 66kV onshore cables and fiber optic cable from the transition pit to the substation, as well as installation, termination and testing of the 66kV cables from 66kV substation to the high-voltage transformers.

Furthermore, the contractor awarded the tender will also be in charge of the design, engineering, supply and construction of the onshore substation building and all its auxiliary services.

Installation works on the onshore grid for Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd are expected to take place in 2019.

Companies now have until 3 October to ask questions and until 15 October to apply. Vattenfall will conclude the pre-qualification process on 8 November and estimates that an invitation to tender will be issued in December of this year.

The tender will be divided into two separate lots, however the developer will ask the candidates to propose bids for both Lot 1 and Lot 2. This is due to the fact that, even though these are separate lots for separate projects, they will be managed and will carry a risk profile as one project.

Vattenfall won the Danish nearshore wind tender for Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord sites in September 2016, with a bid price of 6 Eurocents per kWh (DKK 0.475/kWh). The sites are located in the offshore area outside Hvide Sande and Thyborøn on the west coast of Jutland. They will comprise up to 25 offshore wind turbines each.

The company, also setting up the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark, has issued several pre-qualification calls for the three projects this month, including those for the supply of wind turbines, foundations, wind turbine installation vessel, and offshore construction works.
