Update: EOWDC Transformer Arrives at Blackdog

Grid Connection

The transformer for Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Center (EOWDC) arrived at the Blackdog substation site in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 3 January.

The arrival of the 92.6 tonne transformer in the UK follows a voyage from its manufacturing site in Tapioszele, Hungary, by road via Austria and Germany to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from where it was shipped to Teesport, North Yorkshire, for its final journey.

The transformer will convert the electricity from 66Kv to 132Kv, which will be transported from the Blackdog substation site to Dyce substation.

The 92.4MW EOWDC, also known as Aberdeen offshore wind farm, will comprise eleven MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines scheduled for installation in March 2018.

The wind farm is expected to generate first power in summer 2018 and operate for 20 years.
