Bard Offshore 1 was Germany’s most productive offshore wind farm last year, generating 8% of the country’s total offshore wind output of 18.3 TWh in 2017, Ocean Breeze Energy, the owner and operator of the wind farm, said.

“In general, offshore wind is an enormous and essential contribution to the energy turnaround,” said Jens Hagen, Managing Director of Ocean Breeze Energy.

“Our wind farm BARD Offshore 1 is a trailblazer for offshore wind power in Germany. The fact that it was Germany’s most productive offshore wind farm in 2017 highlights the technological and economic potential of this pioneering project.”

The power generated in 2017 was equivalent to the annual consumption of 430,000 average households in Germany,  corresponding to the energy demand of all households in a major city similar to the size of Frankfurt.

The wind farm’s 80 Bard 5MW turbines have fed 5.1 TWh of electricity to the grid since 2013.
