The news comes a little after German developer EnBW informed it had agreed to acquire 37.5 percent stakes in three offshore wind projects in Taiwan. This is EnBW’s first investment into offshore wind outside Europe.

In January, Taiwan awarded environmental permits to nine offshore wind developers, with European companies being behind the majority of the projects that are now cleared to take further steps towards their development.

The projects with the environmental permits now in place total 10.5GW in capacity, however, Taiwan will select up to 5.5GW of offshore wind projects to be built, with the winners expected to be made known by the end of June 2018.
