Vole au vent Heads to Borkum Riffgrund 2

Jan De Nul’s wind turbine installation vessel Vole au vent has left the port of Eemshaven loaded with the first set of monopiles and transition pieces to be installed on the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm in the German North Sea.

In total, Vole au vent will install 36 monopile foundations at the site some 40 kilometres northwest of the island of Borkum.

The monopiles and the transition pieces, manufactured in Nordenham, Germany, are being transported to Eemshaven by Wagenborg. In total, Wagenborg will make 12 trips to Eemshaven to deliver 36 monopiles, 36 transition pieces and 36 anode cages.

Owned and developed by Ørstedthe Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm will comprise 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines installed on 20 suction bucket jacket foundations and 36 monopile foundations.

The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in 2019.
