Bold Tern In the Zone at Borkum Riffgrund 2

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Bold Tern is completing its fifth run on Ørsted ‘s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm and is currently installing the 19th MHI Vestas 8MW turbine at the site in the German North Sea.

The 20th turbine is expected to be installed on Saturday, 09 June, after which Bold Tern will return to the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark to load another four units. The return to the port is scheduled for Sunday, 10 June.

The vessel installed the first units in early May. According to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, one of the turbines was installed in less than 15 hours.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgund 2 offshore wind farm is located some 57 kilometres off the north-west coast of Germany.

The wind farm comprises 56 MHI Vestas turbines being installed on 36 monopile foundations and 20 suction bucket jacket foundations.

The turbines are slated for full commissioning in 2019.
