Van Beers will be officially nominated for the position at the General Meeting of Shareholders to be held on 31 August 2018. The Works Council has been informed and requested to provide advice, Sif said.

Van Beers holds a degree in marine engineering and he worked as a business unit manager at Alcoa and LIPS before joining Wärtsilä. He served at Wärtsilä as Managing Director Netherlands from 2007 to 2010 and as Vice President Services Area North Europe from 2010 to 2015.

More recently, Van Beers was the CEO of Blohm & Voss shipyards in Hamburg (2015-2017) and served in various other management positions on an interim basis (2017-2018).

He is to replace Jan Bruggenthijs who decided to step down in May due to personal reasons.
