Offshore Wind Innovators has launched a new innovation challenge for Dutch small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups and students to offer offshore wind solutions to local corporates.

The Dutch start-up said that the aim of the Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge is to connect its business partners SeaZip, TKI Wind op Zee and Gemini with entrepreneurs presenting and implementing the innovative solution the industry is looking for.

Interested parties can apply with innovations for SeaZip who seeks a durable and long-lasting fender and with ideas for TKI Wind on how to monitor the impact offshore wind farms have on wildlife at sea, such as birds, and how can the effects be limited or even prevented.

Furthermore, Gemini is looking for a faster way to analyze the oil and grease samples of the turbines at the Gemini offshore wind farm, as well as ideas for a fully automated robotized torquing device. Gemini also seeks ways to inspect blades at night by using drones or other innovative methods.

The deadline for submitting applications is 31 August, with a masterclass to be held in September and a bootcamp with experts in October.

The winners will be announced during the Offshore Wind Innovators Event in November.
