Ørsted contracted Van Oord to transport, install and bury the infield cables on the 450MW offshore wind farm, as well as the interlink cables to the adjacent Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore substation.

Cable laying vessel Nexus was deployed to install the infield cables, with the trencher Dig-It burying the cables into the seabed.

Located 45 kilometres off the coast of Lower Saxony the Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm comprises 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines, the first of which fed power to the German grid earlier this month.

The full commissioning of the wind farm is scheduled for 2019.
