Maersk said that the move is part of the ambition to accelerate the company’s growth into the offshore wind industry.

“Offshore wind has grown rapidly over the last 10 years. Not only have turbines grown in size, the market has expanded. Installation has become more industrialised but there is still room for improvement to help bring down the levelised cost of energy,” said Blicher.

“I look forward to working for MSS to bring new products and services to the offshore wind market.”

According to the Danish company, Blicher has in-depth insights about the offshore wind industry as he founded and developed Swire Blue Ocean, whose core business is turbine installation.

Maersk Supply Service recently initiated a project aiming to find a more efficient method to install offshore wind turbines using its current fleet. The project is conducted with Vestas, in cooperation with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, and focuses on developing a crane solution said to have the potential of significantly decreasing the cost of turbine installation.
