Tekmar to Provide Northwester 2 Cable Protection

Contracts & Tenders

Tekmar Energy has secured a contract by Jan De Nul to provide its cable protection system (CPS) for the Northwester 2 offshore wind farm in Belgium.

Tekmar

Under the agreement, Tekmar will supply its TekLink Mechanical Latch Generation 8 CPS for all of the project’s inter-array and export cables.

The system will be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in the North East of England during this year.

“Cable protection systems are vital for protecting the electrical infrastructure of offshore wind farm projects. We have worked with Tekmar for many years, on projects including Burbo Bank and Race Bank, and Northwester 2 builds on our strong and trusted relationship,” said Stan Logghe, Senior Project Manager at Jan De Nul.

AgileTek Engineering, a Tekmar Group company, also supported the project using its proprietary AEL cloud system, providing verification of the CPS design via global analysis of the cables and CPS.

As the EPCI contractor, Jan De Nul is responsible for the design, construction and installation of the foundations, as well as the transportation and installation of cables and turbines.

Nexans will provide an export cable system for the project, with Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) set to deliver a submarine inter-array power cable system.

The 219MW Northwester 2 offshore wind farm is being developed by Parkwind some 50km north-west of Oostende. Offshore construction is expected to start in June this year, while the project’s 23 MHI Vestas 164-9.5MW turbines are slated for commissioning in 2020
