The Deep Purple project is focused on developing solutions that allow energy from offshore wind farms to be converted to hydrogen and stored on the seabed, then enabling the supply of renewable electricity to oil and gas platforms.

In cooperation with TechnipFMC, HYON will perform engineering services related to technology qualification, development of offshore wind foundations and subsea energy storage solutions.

According to HYON Managing Director Tomas Tronstad, besides powering offshore oil and gas installations, the hydrogen produced can be used for zero-emission power onboard ships.

If implemented, the carbon emissions on the Norwegian continental shelf can be drastically reduced, HYON said.
