Kongstein Reveals Albatros Roles

Wind Farm Update

Marine services provider Kongstein will continue to support Siemens Gamesa as commissioning management provider for the EnBW Albatros offshore wind project in the German North Sea.

Kongstein had already provided T&I management solutions for the wind farm’s Offshore Transformer Module (OTM) transport and installation campaign.

The OTM’s topside was installed in the evening of 26 March 2019. The Heavy Lift Jack-Up Vessel (HLJV) Pacific Osprey loaded the topside in Rotterdam and upon arriving in the construction area, the HLJV Innovation lifted the topside onto the monopile foundation. The jack-up vessel Seafox2 was mobilized and established alongside the OTM to assist as offshore accommodation and logistics hub during the commissioning phase.

The 112MW Albatros wind farm comprises 16 Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbines. EnBW is developing the wind farm jointly with the 497MW Hohe See wind farm located in the immediate vicinity some 95km north of Borkum island.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Brave Tern installed the first turbine on Hohe See in early April. Brave Tern was later on joined by Blue Tern on the installation project. The wind farms are expected to be put into operation at the end of 2019.
