As part of the new agreement, Siemens Gamesa is chartering the wind farm installation vessel (WFIV) Pacific Orca from June 2019 to February 2021 ”to more efficiently service the rising of offshore projects across North Europe”.

”She can service all the types of wind turbines installed so far without any need for vessel modification, thereby reducing the mobilization time between different wind turbine types significantly and further lowering the levelised cost of energy of offshore wind power,” Siemens Gamesa said.

Siemens Gamesa and Swire Blue Ocean have previously collaborated on a number of offshore wind turbine installation projects such as the 336MW Galloper, the 288MW DanTysk, and most recently, the 588MW Beatrice, where Pacific Orca was tasked with installing the 84 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines, some of them sited in record depths.
