Orion is expected to join DEME’s fleet in 2020 after which it will head to the Moray East offshore wind farm project in the UK for the installation of 103 jackets.

The high-tech HLC 295000 crane will be assembled on the 800t pedestal on board, which will also include a rigging store, deck workplace and several offices.

The installation of the crane, which has a lifting capacity of 5,000t, will be supported by the recently inaugurated traveling cargo crane (TCC) 78000, Liebherr said.

Orion will be deployed for the construction of the largest offshore wind farms, to service the oil & gas industry, and for the decommissioning of offshore installations.

The 216.5m long vessel will have the capacity to accommodate a crew of up to 131 people and will be powered by a dual-fuel engine capable of burning liquefied natural gas (LNG).
