Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard has launched the first specialized deck carrier, which will be used by MHI Vestas to transport offshore wind turbine components, at its yard in Zhenjiang, China.

The 148.5-metre deck carrier, named Boldwind, is the first in a series of two vessels ordered by Germany’s United Wind Logistics, with an option for two additional vessels.

Boldwind adopts a full electric propulsion model and a twin wing anti-heeling structure design. It is equipped with vane steering gear, a flap rudder, and an SCR device. The environmental protection emission meets the latest emission standards for Nox and Sox, and the vessel meets the requirements of the Tier III international emission level, the shipbuilder said.

United Wind Logistics is a Hamburg-based company offering transport solutions for offshore wind turbine components from manufacturing sites to pre-assembly ports.  The company currently operates one specialized deck carrier, MV Vestvind, which has been on a charter with MHI Vestas since June 2017.
