The Thailand-based electricity producer announced the acquisition in December 2019. EGCO Group has executed the purchase by obtaining a 25% ownership interest in the project company Yunlin Holding.

Until now, the project was 73% owned by Germany’s wpd and 27% by a Sojitz Corp-led consortium. The consortium includes Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power, and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.

The 640 MW offshore wind project will be commissioned in two phases. The first phase with a 352 MW capacity will go online by the end of this year. The 288 MW second phase is scheduled to be up and running in the third quarter of 2021.

The Yunlin offshore wind farm will feature 80 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines, installed in the Taiwan Strait, some eight kilometres west of the coast of Yunlin County. The project will cover an overall area of approximately 90 square kilometers.
