The platform will be fabricated at Sembcorp Marine’s yard, while Heerema’s semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir is expected to carry out the offshore installation in 2024.

Located at the heart of the wind farm, the platform will comprise a 17,000-ton topside and a jacket foundation structure piled into the seabed.

“We are proud to be contributing to the Sofia project and are looking forward to working with Sembcorp Marine and the various other stakeholders to make this project a success. We would like to thank Sembcorp Marine for their trust in Heerema Marine Contractors to deliver a safe and successful project, said Koen van der Perk, Heerema’s Wind Business Unit Director.

Earlier this year, Sembcorp Marine and GE Grid Solutions secured the full contract to supply the HVDC transmission system for the Sofia offshore wind farm, which includes the offshore converter platform, the onshore converter station, and all ancillary equipment.

The 1.4 GW project will comprise 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines located in the North Sea 195 km off the coast of the North East of England.
