Acteon has completed a cable survey at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in Virginia as part of a partnership with Siemens Gamesa.
Acteon’s TerraSond performed the survey from Atlantic Endeavor, the project’s dedicated crew transfer vessel (CTV) that was specially modified for the work.
The CVOW export cables are about 45 kilometers long, while the inter-array cables are 1 kilometer long.
In September 2020, Acteon and Siemens Gamesa entered into an agreement to jointly provide a fully integrated turbine operations and maintenance (O&M) package for the CVOW project.
Siemens Gamesa is providing all above waterline asset integrity inspection and Acteon companies TerraSond, Seatronics, Deepwater, and Clarus are inspecting the subsea components, including general visual, marine growth and anode inspection.
“Being able to combine our companies’ expertise enabled us to find creative solutions to perform this work scope and use the existing CTV. This allowed for a more efficient process while reducing the project’s overall footprint and, ultimately, led to the partnership with Acteon,” said Jacob Ib , Senior marine asset manager at Siemens Gamesa.
Energized in October 2020, CVOW comprises two Siemens Gamesa 6 MW turbines and is the first offshore wind farm in U.S. federal waters.
Located 43.5 kilometers off the Virginia coast, the demonstrator wind farm was built to provide the operational, weather, and environmental experience needed for the development of Dominion’s adjacent 2.6 GW CVOW project.
