According to the company, its initial involvement is the export cables package at Prysmian’s Pikkala factory in Finland, where Bureau Technical Services is overseeing the manufacture and load-out of the 320kV HDVC offshore export cable.

“The Sofia project marks another milestone in Bureau’s expanding Offshore Wind offering, becoming our twentieth-project involvement since 2014,” said Tom Greaves, director of operations at Bureau.

Back in March 2021, RWE reached the financial investment decision on the Sofia offshore wind farm worth around EUR 3.5 billion.

The project will comprise 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines, an offshore converter station, and hundreds of miles of both inter-array and export cables as well as onshore electrical infrastructure.

With offshore installation expected to begin in 2023 and project completion due in 2026, Sofia will have a capacity of 1.4 GW, making it one of the largest single offshore wind farms in the world.
