Danish transmission system operator Energinet has issued a contract notice for the procurement of the onshore export cable section for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind farm.

The wind farm’s onshore grid connection consists of 21 individual cable sections each containing two 220 kV cable systems with a combined length of approximately 28 kilometres. The total length of the single core cable for Thor is approximately 175 kilometres, Energinet said.

Additionally to cable production and delivery, the contract also includes the supervision of civil works, performed by a third-party contractor, and cable pulling, manufacturing, delivery, and installation of joints and terminations, as well as final commissioning testing.

The delivery, installation, and testing of the onshore export cable system is anticipated to take place in 2024.

The contract is valued at EUR 17 million. The tender will remain open until 28 March.

Scheduled for full commissioning in 2027, the subsidy-free Thor offshore wind farm will be developed and operated for a period of 30 years by Germany’s RWE.
