Wind Farm Update

WPD has started the realisation of the Gennaker offshore wind farm, located 15 kilometers off the German Baltic Sea coast, with the conditional order of 103 Siemens Gamesa 9 MW offshore wind turbines, announced today (4 July), and the start of the soil investigation work at wind turbine locations.

At the same time, the tendering process for the other main components and installation vessels is ongoing, the developer said.

“In the coming weeks and months, the grid connection will be tackled, and we can count on the good cooperation with the responsible grid operator 50 Hertz. Thanks to the constant support of the state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we are confident that we will also be able to master the challenges that still lie ahead of us in the future”, said Andree Iffländer, project manager at WPD.

With a total capacity of 927 MW, Gennaker will be the most powerful offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea to date, according to WPD.

The full capacity is expected to be installed by the end of 2026, from when the project will make an important contribution to the German government’s ambitious plans and targets for accelerating the energy transition.
